  1. kind of the bad boy of letters. He did not get along 
  2. well with administrators or with other people and 
  3. he was always quarreling with other faculty 
  4. members and so on. I love his quarrelsome 
  5. disposition, his flair for theatre. There are all kinds 
  6. of things about him that I find very attractive. The 
  7. only problem is that he never wrote his master 
  8. work. That is the issue, is that he wrote several 
  9. early books, and they were like collections of 
  10. essays of his. I think that has cost him his 
  11. reputation in the long run. But even Norman O. 
  12. Brown, who did write a master work, Life Against  
  13. Death , has in some way been displaced by the 
  14. influx of French theory.
